Music, Csun and My Portfolio.
Hello wonderful readers, and welcome to my Weebly website. My name is Onnig John Ashikian and I am currently a student at the California State University of Northridge. Since that is such a mouthful, I think I will just stick to calling it CSUN. I am about to finish my first year at CSUN and this is one of the last assignments that I will write as a freshman. I am currently enrolled at CSUN under an electrical engineering major and hope to one day walk on stage, grab my diploma and make big money in the field. Until then, I am going to stick to Djing as my current occupation. I personally love music and I have been a Dj for almost three years now. For me it does not matter what genre of music it is because I listen to almost anything with a good melody and talented artists. My favorite band is easily The Neighborhood, and I would strongly recommend it if you are going to read everything in my portfolio. If not, any other calming music that will get rid of your headache will work. If you do choose to listen to The Neighborhood, there is a link at the bottom of the home page. Well let’s just move on and get to how I have improved this year.
I cannot believe how much I have improved over the last year through my 114 English classes. I never thought if I actually looked back at my old writings I would see an improvement in the new ones. I feel as though the most improvement I have seen is in how I used my sources to support my arguments. I think this is most clear between my project text and web essays. Even though I have made many big improvements, I still have a lot to learn and I know that I will continue to improve over the next four or even five years at CSUN. Though this is true I am going to need more than just my improvements to get through college. What every student needs the most is a strong influence in their lives.
For me, my father has been the biggest influence on my education. My father has a computer engineering degree and is very well educated in mathematics and science. He is also the reason I chose electrical engineering as my major. My father has always talked to me about the field and always tries to teach me something new. Because of him, I have a newfound love in the field and want to pursue an education in electrical engineering. Ok, now I promise, I will stick to what I have learned.
I feel as though the other area that I have really improved on is my thinking process. When I write my essays now, I consider both ends of the argument before I write. This way I know I can defend my argument against counter arguments and convince my readers to believe in me. There is a lot of writers that do not know how to this and so all they do is support their argument with other peoples research. From what I learned in my last year’s 114A class, I know that if you can prove the other persons argument wrong, then your argument is more likely to be correct. A lot of the times when I get into debates I use this method to prove my opponent wrong and it usually works to my advantage.
One thing I noticed about my writing is that I am actually more creative and productive when I listen to music. Most professors typically tell you to work in a quiet environment with no distractions. I usually do the complete opposite. I use music to get my brain to start flowing new ideas because when I am in a quiet room, my head feels the same way, blank. When I realized this, my writing came to life and it wasn’t just some dull words on a piece of paper. Not to sound conceded, but my works became more than just an essay but a strong argument that’s worth the read. If you do not believe me then read my works below. I am sure you will enjoy reading most of my works, if not all.

I chose Project Text for my Portfolio because the book I read, Divergent, was easily my favorite book and the only one that i enjoyed reading.
I chose Project Web for my second essay because it is easy to see the improvements in my writing style between Project text and web.
I think my last blog post was probably the best and easiest to understand, since the images are displayed in the post.
This is a youtube page with almost all of The Neighborhoods songs. Go ahead and give them a try if you haven't already.
